NEW FOR 2024

Constructathon is a hackathon where creative minds from the AEC sector can co-create solutions, acquire skills and make new connections. Taking place over one day it will bring together industry leaders, tech heavy-weights and construction partners to collaborate and find ways of applying technology to solve some of the biggest pain points faced by the construction industry.

A timely and well considered forum and format for operatives within the broader construction sector. Productivity and efficiency should have been on the entire construction sectors agenda for years, so congratulations for delivering a critical step in the right direction – I for one will be involved every year.

Bradley Hall

Managing Director, FORTEX

It was a pleasure to be a part of the FCON-Tech event. It’s a great opportunity to get together with our industry peers to talk about our common challenges and learn from each other to keep pushing the industry forward. Looking forward to the next one.

I thoroughly enjoyed FCON, both as an attendee and speaker. There were some thought-provoking presentations, and the summit was organised well. I also enjoyed the round-tables, getting to hear perspectives from a range of attendees from around the industry, and generating some robust discussion. All-round a great event!

Alice Hanna

Head of People & Culture, Kapitol Group

FCON-TECH23 was a very well organised and well run summit. There is an incredible array of very clever products developed by some truly great minds that are available to improve project outcomes as well as deliver significant overall improvements for the construction sector. It is vital that this information is shared with industry and government representatives alike and the summit provides an excellent platform for that. Congratulations to everyone involved.

PANEL | What Construction Leaders Want from Technology: How CEO’s & CIO’s Make Technology Decisions

As the construction sector faces escalating material costs, supply chain disruptions, labour shortages, and growing project complexity, Australia’s leading contractors are increasingly treating technology adoption as a business-critical strategy – not just a technical decision. In this CXO led panel, senior leaders from the country’s leading contractors will candidly share what they really want from technology: the business problems they are prioritizing, the barriers they encounter in scaling innovation across complex organisations, and how they assess value and risk in a rapidly changing market. The discussion will also explore how leaders are driving cultural change in traditionally risk-averse environments, what they look for in technology partners, and where they believe the construction sector must evolve to stay competitive over the next decade.

  • Strategic Business Drivers: What critical challenges are CEOs relying on technology to solve?
  • Scaling Adoption: Overcoming cultural, operational, and organisational barriers to enterprise-wide rollout.
  • De-Risking Investment Decisions: How executives evaluate ROI, implementation risk, and long-term value.
  • Building a Culture of Innovation: Embedding agility, experimentation, and accountability across large teams.

INTERNATIONAL CASE STUDY | Investing in Innovation: What Construction Can Learn from Global Tech Pilots & VC Partnerships

As construction firms look to accelerate their digital transformation, venture capital is becoming a critical bridge between emerging tech and real-world deployment. In this keynote case study, understand the lessons learned from working with some of the world’s largest construction-related corporates who are investing in innovation not just for returns, but for strategic advantage.

Drawing on multiple real-world examples from Brick & Mortar’s LP base, this session explores how forward-thinking firms are using VC partnerships to identify emerging technologies, pilot them across their operations, and scale what works. Attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at both the wins and the missteps and walk away with a more nuanced view of what it actually takes to move from innovation theory to operational impact.

  • Funding Meets Field Ops: How global construction leaders are using VC-backed partnerships to access and apply emerging tech
  • What Worked (and What Didn’t): Lessons from multiple pilots – from proof-of-concept through deployment
  • Strategic Alignment: How LPs are aligning tech bets with internal capabilities, market conditions, and long-term goals
  • Bringing It Home: What Australian contractors can learn from innovation strategies “across the pond”

You Fund the Tech, But Miss the Cost: Construction Software’s Invisible Bill

Despite steadily rising investments in construction technology, many companies are struggling to achieve a meaningful return. Budgets are generally scoped around procurement and licenses, while the real costs lie in the way work is delivered day to day. When tools fail to align with on-the-ground processes invisible spend starts to creep in. This session unpacks where those hidden costs accumulate and explores how to refocus tech spend to deliver measurable outcomes and lasting operational impact.

  • The IT Budget Blind Spot: Redirecting investment toward operational outcomes that support the majority – to avoid double handling and supply chain friction
  • Systems of Record vs Systems of Action: Turning platforms into real-time decision enablers rather than passive archives.
  • Exposing the Hidden Bill: Reframing ROI to account for behavioural cost, siloed data, undocumented decisions and lost time on site.

CASE STUDY | Field Technology & Robotics: Aligning Innovation with Strategic Outcomes

As construction sites face mounting pressure to deliver faster, safer, and more cost-effectively, contractors are increasingly turning to field robotics and emerging tech. From autonomous equipment and drones to wearable devices and real-time field reporting apps, these tools promise improved productivity and safety. But adoption doesn’t occur in a vacuum—new technologies must also align with broader project values, including stakeholder expectations, community outcomes, and long-term strategic goals. In this case study, a senior leader shares how their organisation navigated both operational and strategic dynamics to pilot and scale field technologies. Expect insights into real-world barriers, adoption strategies, and the delicate balance between innovation and value alignment.

  • Beyond the Site: How strategic priorities like employment targets, community expectations, and stakeholder commitments can shape (or stall) tech adoption.
  • Enhancing Site-Level Operations: How drones, mobile platforms, and wearable tech are optimising inspections, safety, and on-site communication.
  • Driving Frontline Adoption: Lessons learned in securing buy-in and embedding tools into day-to-day workflows.

CASE STUDY | Visual Intelligence: Enhancing Productivity with Automated Site Monitoring

Construction productivity data has traditionally relied on manual reporting from site crews – a method plagued by bias, incompleteness, and inefficiency. In this case study, the LXRP Hive Research and Development team showcases how they piloted and deployed AI-powered visual intelligence to replace manual inputs with automated, real-time insights. Using fixed-site cameras and computer vision models, the initiative captured detailed operational data without interrupting workflows. The project, delivered in partnership with Langrouke, Building 4.0 CRC, and the University of Melbourne, offers a blueprint for using video analytics to digitise progress tracking and support smarter, faster decision-making in complex infrastructure delivery.

  • Why Manual Monitoring Falls Short: The limitations of traditional productivity tracking and why a shift to visual intelligence is overdue.
  • From Camera to Insight: How computer vision and AI were used to extract actionable insights from video footage – reducing bias and enabling real-time decision-making.
  • Operational Efficiency Without Disruption: How the team ensured camera-based monitoring didn’t interfere with daily workflows or safety protocols.
  • Scaling Across Agencies: How visual intelligence is now being expanded across multiple Victorian infrastructure programs to support a consistent, data-led approach to project oversight.
